Macvin du Jura is a fortified dessert wine from Jura in eastern France. It is made by blending grape juice with something called marc du Jura, a type of grape pomace brandy. This fortifies the grape juice, preserving sweetness and upping the alcohol which is around 16% and up. Typically, they are rich, sweet and highly aromatic with candied fruit, honey, nuts and spicy, oxidative notes. They make for very exciting dessert wines or aperitifs.
