Dry Creek Valley Wines

Dry Creek Valley is a long, narrow valley in Sonoma, with vineyards on both the valley floor and on slopes and benchlands either side of the Dry Creek river. Dry Creek Valley has warm days but in the evenings cool ocean air and fogs from San Pablo Bay are funnelled along ther river, giving much cooler nights. The southern part of the valley closer to the coast is generally cooler and better suited to white varieties.

Dry Creek is best known for Zinfandel and has many important old vine plantings over 100 years old. Those from the north of the appellation are often riper, with more jammy and dried fruit flavours than the fresher styles from the south of the appellation. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Rhône varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan) are also produced. The key white variety is Sauvignon Blanc.
