Nahe Wines
Nahe is a bit of an unknown in the international wine world, with lots of small estates spread out over a wide area. This region did once produce high volumes of Muller Thurgau and Silvaner for German liebfraumilch but recently it has been gaining a reputation for quality Riesling that is recognised as been between Mosel Riesling and warmer climate Riesling from the Rhine regions of Rheingau and Rheinhessen. In other words, some ripe fruit, but still more of a citrus, high acid wine like the quintessential Mosel style. Indeed, much like Mosel, the best vineyards are on dark slate soils and slopes too steep for mechanisation.
Red here is also growing in popularity with some Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Dornfelder that is worth getting hold of.
