Bio Bio Valley Wines

Bio Bio is one of Chile's more extreme wine growing regions, with over 1,000mm average rainfall per year and temperatures that hardly ever go above 30 degrees celcius in the summer. It is also without doubt one of the most exciting, new development areas in Chile. When the revival of the Chilean wine industry first began in the 1980s, this area was still very much just a region which produced traditional varieties such as Pais, meaning that now there are a number of old bush vines making great wines from this variety. However, modern investment and new vineyard plantings in the region have brought in international varietals including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Due to the climate, Bio Bio is excellent at producing aromatic whites. As such, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Riesling and Gewurztraminer are also more widely planted and showing some very good promise, at pretty good value too!
