What is Navy Rum?

Navy Rum comes from the British Navy during the colonial era in the mid 17th century. It was seen as a way to keep up morale during long voyages as well as provide a safe source of drinking "water".

Nowadays, in order to qualify for the esteemed title of British Navy Rum, it must be a blend of aged rums from at least two of the former colonies of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad. ABV must also reach 54.5% to qualify. Purists will also insist that at least some of the rums must be from the pot stills of Guyana.
