Lujan de Cuyo Wines

An important department in Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo is singled out for its elevation with most vinyards between around 900-1100m above sea level. It is best known for Malbec and boasts some exceptional old plantings.

This was the first DOC to be created in Argentina, and in order to have this name appear on the label, wines must be aged for at least 24 months, 12 of which must be in oak.

Within this department, are a number of even smaller regions of note, known as GIs, including Agrelo and Las Compuertas. These command the highest prices.
