Lodi Wines

Lodi is in the northern part of Central Valley in California, lodged close to Sacramento and not far from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, where the goldrush of 1848 began.

It has a Mediterranean climate, moderated by cooling winds from San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Conditions are favourable to growing many varieties, from Cinsault, Grenache and Picpoul from France, to the red grapes of Bordeaux, Tempranillo and Albarino from Spain, Touriga Nacional from Portugal, Barbera from Italy and Riesling from Germany. However, what Lodi is best known for is exceptional Zinfandel, with some old vines over 100 years old. It makes full-bodied, velvety Zin with ripe tannin, dark fruits and cherry flavours.

In 2006, Lodi was divided into 7 sub AVAs, the most famous of which is the Mokelumn River AVA for its significant number of Lodi's old vine Zinfandel.
