British Columbia Wines

British Columbia's wine regions span a wide area, from vineyards near the Pacific Coast and on Vancouver Island, to the inland, mountainous region of Okanagan Valley around Kelowna. The inland regions particularly receive hot, long growing days in the summer, with the damage from wildfires becoming increasingly acute.

Red and white wines are made in more or less equal measure with Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon proving to make premium reds, and Pinot Gris and Chardonnay the best whites.

There are a number of appellations within British Columbia, including:

• Coastal regions: Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands and Fraser Valley
