What is Extra Anejo Tequila?

Extra Anejo Tequila was a category introduced in 2006 for Tequilas aged 3 years or more, reflecting the luxury icon the spirit has become. As ever with alcoholic drinks and age, the price tends to reflect how long it has been aged for, as many producers make Tequila that has been aged for well-over 3 years. Certain additions like Ultra, Elite, Reserva etc have also been used to indicate the Tequila is far above the 3 year minimum.

The best are oak-rich, super smooth Tequila's that can be surprisingly easy drinking. They are dark amber in colour with complex caramel, nutmeg, leather and tobacco notes that make it worthy of sipping very slowly to enjoy every moment.
