Petaluma Gap Wines
The Petaluma Gap is a fairly new AVA on the Sonoma Coast, defined by its wind conditions. Open to the coast at both ends, high-speed coastal winds flow through the region. Its boundaries are defined by an area that maintains a persistent wind of at least 12 kilometres per hour through the growing season.
Pinot Noir makes up around 3/4 of all plantings, with Chardonnay and Syrah the next most common. Due to the cool climate, the wines tend to have high acid and fresh fruit flavours.
