Anderson Valley Wines

Located in the Mendocino AVA, which is itself part of the larger North Coast AVA in California, which runs around 160 kilometres down the Pacific coastline and up to 80 kilometres, Anderson Valley is a coastal region with a reputation for premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Aromatic whites such as Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris also do well here.

From the Pacific, cold air and fog are funnelled inland along the Navarro River, giving cold evenings and mornings to the more coastal regions. Further inland, the valley narrows, reducing the flow of ocean breezes and fog leading to warmer conditions. These conditions are perfect for the grapes above and a number of wineries from other areas of the state will buy Anderson Valley grapes specifically to make Anderson Valley wines.
