Monterey Wines

Monterey AVA is located in the Central Coast of California. At 130km long, it is a large region that follows the Salinas River Valley down to Monterey Bay. Here the water is particularly cold due to a deep canyon in the bay, making it one of the coolest regions of central valley.

The coolest areas are planted with Pinot Noir and Riesling for the most part, whereas warmer areas are capable of making good quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel. Chardonnay is the most common variety, performing well in both conditions.
