Here are three names every wine lover should memorise. First there's the region of Bierzo - a rural corner of northwest Spain that's producing some of the country's most exciting wines. Secondly, remember Mencia - it's the region's signature grape, which produces glorious wines like this that are full of flavour, yet lithe, crisp and fresh. Imagine a cool vintage Rhône, or perhaps Burgundy on steroids! And thirdly, remember Ricardo Pérez Palacios. He's the winemaker at Vinos Guerra - one of Spain's oldest working wineries - and a founding member of Bierzo's new Consejo Regulador, who are very successfully raising their standards and the region's profile with amazing wines like this.
