Somontano lies in the Pyrenean foothills in the northeast of Spain. It was only established as a DO in 1985 but already Viñas del Vero is one of the most awarded in Spain's famous Guía Peñín Wine Guide. In 2011, 2012 and 2013, ten of their wines were awarded over 90 points. The bodega was established by a pioneering team in 1986, with 550 hectares of native grapes as well as international stars like Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot. The area offers ideal conditions for vines. Even the Romans knew that and made wine there. Today the winery has 700 hectares of vines and is one of the country's most impressive cellars, with rows of quality oak casks for ageing. Made from Cabernet, Tempranillo and Syrah, this is a rich oaked red, best with lamb.
