A hundred years ago, the region of Lessona was producing some of the best wines in Italy, and it was the wines made by Felice Sperino in particular that delivered on this reputation. At last, Lessona is starting to be re-discovered, and at the forefront of this desire for quality is Paolo De Marchi, who inherited the estate from Felice Sperino, Paulo’s great, great uncle. Paulo now runs the winery with his eldest son Luca and plans to increase their holdings from five and a half hectares to eight. Tasting Note: The 2005 displays the characteristic aromas of fine Nebbiolo – violets, cherries, raspberries, wild herbs and even hints of tar. It is juicy and rich with cherry on the palate balanced by linear mineral notes that combine with mature tannins. Long, elegant and fresh through to the finish. Food Pairing: Game, Pasta, Lamb
