Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world's best loved white grapes, whether from New Zealand's trendy Marlborough region or from its traditional homeland in Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé (in France's Loire Valley). These wines are pretty pricey, but in Eastern Europe there are some excellent though little known areas perfectly suited to Sauvignon Blanc and offering much better value. Paris Street is a perfect example. It comes from Transylvania, a remote region separated from the rest of Romania by the Carpathian Mountains and the Transylvanian Alps. Lean and minerally with zingy citrus fruit character, Paris Street is great with fish and shellfish dishes such as grilled sea bass on a bed of fennel, prawn and crab risotto or smoked salmon.
