Excellent colour; a lovely wine, another in the stable to bounce back; classic cabernet fruit, with long, fine, cedary/savoury tannins; perfect balance.

Score: 96/100

Bright, deep red-purple; the bouquet offers clean, gently ripe blackcurrant and mulberry fruit together with a hint of cedar; the classy, sophisticated, ultra-smooth and supple palate has excellent flow and mouth feel. For the record, the wine does have a percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Franc included.

Score: 95/100

A fabulous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot - smooth, silky and aged to absolute perfection. Deep crimson in colour. A sweet complex bouquet of violets, cassis, cedar, tar and hints of anise, plums, herbs and bacon. The palate is generous and ripe with blueberry pie and subtle hints of herbs and rosemary. Rich and juicy with fleshy textured fruits, excellent depth and concentration; very complex with layers of fine-grained velvety tannins.

Medium-bodied; elegant, finely structured style; a subtle interplay of blackcurrant, earth, olive and fine French oak; long, balanced finish

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Cyril Henschke is a single vineyard wine blended of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot that is provocatively scented with lovely and pure cassis, roses and violet aromas accented by some cedar and underlying menthol, pencil lead and some loam. Medium to full-bodied, rich and opulent, with great mid-palate flesh plus medium to high balanced acid, it has a firm level of finely grained tannins and a very long finish. A great Cyril Henschke! Though approachable now, it should drink best 2014 to 2022+.

Mid garnet. Gorgeously evolved and expressive with a very attractive red berry sauce character. Soft tannins that give just enough grip on the finish. Serious yet very drinkable at the same time. Incredibly juicy.

Product reviewed: Henschke 'Cyril Henschke' Cabernet

Intense and heady, the wine smells of ripe blackberries and violets, followed by a richly flavoured and complex palate to match. With a lovely, long finish and surprisingly silky tannins for such a young wine, the 2009 Cyril Henschke is an outstanding wine from an outstanding vintage capable of ageing for many years yet.
