Established in 1878, this 14 hectare estate near the village of Fages boasts 70 year old Malbec vines grown on sidèrolithique soils that are rich in iron and orange in colour. Here, fifth generation winemaker Sébastien Dauliac is making dark, ripe, sultry wines that are lively yet under-stated. This is nothing like the mouth-puckering, tannic wines that some people may recognise as old school Cahors. The colour is deep purple as you would expect, but the nose is forward and fruit driven with only subtle oak in evidence and lots of dried flowers and minerality. The palate is full and refined, soft and balanced with very fine tannins. Expect excellent concentration, stylish and elegant.
