This classically-styled Gran Reserva is only made in the finest of vintages, and 2001 is among the best in recent history. Temperature-controlled fermentation is followed by a lengthy 31 months' ageing in American oak barriques, and a further 3 years' bottle ageing before release. Powerful notes of leather and pomander fill the bouquet, and the raisiny palate is rich and supremely polished. Decanting this wine around 40 minutes before drinking will allow it to show its almost ethereal complexity.
