Gourmet Traveller rate this one of New Zealand's Top Sauvignons alongside Cloudy Bay, who make 200,000 cases a year compared to Brightwater's 5,000! Each vintage causes an avalanche of press acclaim. Since it burst onto the scene in 1999 it's won Golds above some of New Zealand's biggest names, has been awarded marks in the mid 90s from the great and good of the wine world. This year was no exception and the winery is going from strength to strength. Alive with intense aromas - fresh-cut grass, gooseberry, lemon - and rich, long-lasting flavours of zesty tropical fruits. Crisp, pure and lively, it makes an excellent aperitif but is fine enough to partner grilled fish (like turbot), lemon chicken or Thai food.
