About & Food Matching
These are big, meaty wines, which in youth, may appear slightly rustic and harsh, but soften and build into rich, spicy monsters over the years. Beware, there is no such thing as cheap or affordable Hermitage – if there is, it’s worth avoiding!
A small amount of expensive white wine is also produced, predominantly from the Roussanne and the Marsanne.
Style: Big, bold and powerful, packed with inky, black fruit and intense flavours. Long lasting.
Grapes: Syrah, Roussanne, Marsanne.
Good With: keep it simple to make the most of the wine – roast beef, roast lamb or very good hard cheese.
