Mario Ercolino, the man behind this wine, discovered a patch of ancient and forgotten vines while tramping through the northern Puglian countryside - in a region better known for olives than grapes. Realising their potential he tracked down the owner and persuaded him to coax them back into production. Between them they christened the vineyard Somaro, after the rare breed of donkeys that once worked the land.Mario is a specialist in southern Italian grapes and is particularly skilled at bringing out their wonderfully expressive aromas. He matured this wine for six months in small French oak casks, bottling with minimal filtration to preserve its flavour and complexity. Enjoy with roast beef, spicy pasta dishes or full flavoured cheeses.
